US Government Shutdown is Off the Table as White House and Congress Agree On the Budget

Senior Congressional negotiators on Thursday reached a preliminary agreement with the White House on a number of bills to finance federal agencies until September 30, 2020 - hopefully preventing a partial government shutdown next week.
A source familiar with the negotiations said that a House of Representatives vote on a series of bills worth about $ 1.3 trillion could be held as early as Tuesday. Congress is keen to catch it by December 20, when the current funding period expires.
Although some technical issues have yet to be resolved, the source said that the main differences between the Democrats and Republicans have been resolved. This includes an agreement on the requirement of US President Donald Trump to allocate billions of dollars for the further construction of the wall on the border with Mexico, the source said, without specifying whether such costs would be included in the package.
